even Kai Winn was the perfect nasty villain Guinan, Q, Barclay, Ro Laren and a few others are great, but once again TNG can't compete with DS9: Garak, Gul Dukat, Nog, Jake, Vic Fontaine, Rom, Weyoun (actually every dominion, jem hadar and vorta appearence), Damar, Sisko's father, Martok, Brunt. If I mention the recurring characters, is just cowardice.
#Season 5 episode 17 deep space nine cast full
Quark is a brilliant descontruction of the ferengi evilness of TNG (like Worf with the klingons), with a incredibly funny actor and a character full of pathos O'brien is the greatest everyman the show ever wrote, his plots with family always interesting and with great interactions with Bashir (the greatest friendship the franchise ever did?). Bashir is the TNG-utopia-snobbish, a very clever post-colonial commentary, but then he gots even more complex with the augmented intelligence dillema and the conflicts with Sector 31. Odo goes from a mysterious being to the conflicts of being of the race of the biggest interestelar enemy. Dax is one of the greatest high concepts the series ever did - the new Dax in the final season is fascinating with a lovely actress, even with some weak episodes.

Kira is the anti-establishment turned into established. Every character is way superior and with a great concept. Sisko is a great character, with insanely interesting backstory, but the series doesn't have to rely him as much. The ensemble in DS9 in simply on another league. Worf is a standout too, but he gets a lot better developed in DS9. Troi, Wesley and Dr Crusher are really average-to-bad characters, tho I have the best of sympathy for the actors for the hard work, they feel in place in every scene, but when the story focus on them, it's generally from uninteresting to bad. Riker and LaForge are very nice and fun guys, but more supporting, when they are in the center the episodes are not classics, especially Riker frequently the womanizer. TNG is a great show that opened the way for DS9, definitely one of the best sci-fi shows ever, regularly making great stories, but I'm impressed on how the show relies on Picard and Data to produce great stories.
